Pre-operative rehabilitation is advisable
Post op
Day 1 – 3 weeks
- Immobilise for 3 weeks
- Teach axillary hygiene
- Teach postural awareness and scapular setting
- Active assisted flexion as comfortable
- Active assisted external rotation as comfortable
3 – 6 weeks
- Wean off sling
- Active flexion to 90 degrees
- Active/assisted abduction in the scapular plane to 60 degrees
- Correct abnormal movement patterns
- Start isometric rotator cuffs strengthening with the forearm supported
6 – 12 Weeks
- Progress active exercises through full ROM
- Progress rotator cuff and deltoid strengthening exercises
- Progress dynamic scapular control exercises
- Start proprioceptive weight bearing exercises
- Regain scapula control & normal shoulder control
- Incorporate sports-specific rehabilitation
